NDIS Capacity Building

Therapy & Social Work

Assessment Recommendation Therapy or Training – Social Worker 15_621_0128_1_3

Having professions in both psychotherapy and social work, I bring a unique and holistic perspective to psychosocial capacity building. These backgrounds allow me to support you in a comprehensive and holistic manner by integrating psychological, social, and environmental aspects of your circumstances.

If we think of gardening, psychotherapy has a bit more of a focus on the plant, whereas social work has a bit more of a focus on the garden bed, but they both overlap considerably. This is particularly important if we’re to distinguish between impairment being about capacity and every day functioning, and disability about being disadvantaged, discriminated against, and excluded.

Whilst training in capacity building is important, even more important is how therapists build a relationship with their clients. If you and I were to work together, I would first ask about how you and I could ‘team up’ for the problems you’re facing. I do this by listening, asking questions, and checking my understanding with you. I see you as the expert in your own life, and it’s my job to consult with you about how I can help.

I’ve been providing therapy for NDIS clients for almost five years, so have an understanding of the NDIS, support coordination, budgeting, and NDIS supports. I’m also registered as a positive behaviour support practitioner (though do not directly provide this as a service). Having worked in NDIS for sometime, I’m mindful to be compassionate and flexible for NDIS clients, including providing home visits or ‘board meetings’ (meeting on a skateboard or surfboard).

Please note I am not registered with NDIS so you will need to be self-managed or plan managed to use your NDIS funding.
