EMDR Therapy in Margaret River

Margaret River EMDR Therapy

I offer Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy due to the strong-evidence base and extremely positive feedback from clients. EMDR helps people process distressing memories, reduce emotional triggers, and better align with their preferred life. It works by engaging the brain’s natural healing processes, and engages certain parts of the brain/body to desensitise and reprocess trauma in a safe and structured way.

What is EMDR 2.0?

I also offer EMDR 2.0 in Margaret River. This a newer, more dynamic approach using innovative neuropsychological research to accelerate the process. It uses stronger trauma taxation methods and creative interventions to help reduce distress more rapidly, and shift difficult memories with greater ease.

Benefits include:

  • Faster relief from distress, and faster processing

  • Increased flexibility and creativity in how processing happens

  • Loosening “stuck” memories or emotions that haven’t shifted with other therapies

  • An approach that can feel surprisingly playful at times, bringing a lighter feel to trauma work

Who Can Benefit?

EMDR isn’t just for trauma. When something happens to us, the event/s can be traumatic but not cause trauma. These traumatic memories play a big part in mental health concerns and emotional distress. For example, social anxiety might be driven by shame (I’m not good enough), which is maintained by a memory network of shameful memories. Each of those memories were traumatic and snowballed together to create a mental health problem.

Clients often find it effective for:

    • Trauma and PTSD

    • Anxiety and depression

    • Specific fears

    • Stuck emotional patterns

    • Substance Use

How Long Does EMDR Take?

In the beginning, we begin with a comprehensive assessment of your mental health, discuss the process, and explore how we’ll collaborate the theory process together.

Depending on complexity, the process can vary widely. It is not uncommon that clients will experience a significant reduction in distress around traumatic memories in just 15 minutes. However, this is not to say the trauma has been processed, and it does take time to get to the processing stage. Various factors determine how quickly distress diminishes and trauma is reprocessed.

If you’re located outside of Margaret River in Cowaramup, Yallingup, Dunsborough, or the wider South West of WA, online appointments are just as effective as face-to-face.
