Psychology, Counselling & Psychotherapy in Margaret River

I am trained in several different types of psychology, counselling and psychotherapy including Narrative Therapy, Internal Family Systems, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), and Mindfulness. I integrate these therapies to make sure they fit in with you, so you don’t have to fit in with them.

The Heart of Therapy: Human Connection

Connection always comes before clinical practice. Therapy is about supporting you to feel comfortable, respected, dignified, heard, and empowered. This is the basis of all good therapy. Research suggests that around 80% of positive outcomes in therapy are based on the therapeutic relationship alone.

You Are Not The Problem

Another important aspect of my practice is that, rather than seeing the person as the problem, I view the problem as the problem. So, instead of you being the problem by having ‘irrational thoughts’, I see symptoms and what happened to you as problematic.

You Are The Expert of Your Life

I view you as the expert in your life. I’ve never walked a day in your shoes, so I would never presume to know what’s best for you. Therapy is about collaborating together to discover a path forward. We actively work together to shift questions like ‘what’s wrong with me’ to ‘what happened to me, how did I survive, and how do I move beyond this’. Together, with your life expertise and my use of compassionate inquiry, we can create opportunities to re-author your preferred life.

Long-Term Empowerment

In our sessions together, we often create therapy based on your psychology, not someone else’s psychology. This helps create lasting change and for you to feel empowered do more personal work without a therapist.
